Green Building
Phases > Before You Build
Where is
the site located? What size is the home? Can we
incorporate passive design into the architectural plans?
All of these questions need to be answered before actually
starting on the design of the house. Do you want to save
resources such as gas, money and driving time? If so, then
we’ll work with you to choose a site that is close to
workplaces, schools and shops rather than undeveloped
areas that require more driving.
We
work with you to choose a size of home that doesn’t exceed
your family’s space needs. This is different than the
traditional way of thinking about a home in just square
footage, number of bedrooms and baths. We’ll work with you
to get the right size that fits your lifestyle and better
designed spaces use fewer resources to build, furnish and
less energy to heat and cool.
If we
can incorporate passive design we need to look at that in
the very earliest stages to be able to orient your home to
take advantage of free natural resources such as sunlight,
breezes and trees. These all work towards lowering energy
bills all year around as well as using breezes to
ventilate the house, control erosion and provide shade and
privacy. |
