Energy
Intelligence – A Taoton Homes Standard
For
most people, building a home is the most expensive
purchase they will ever make and at Taoton Homes our standard of
home building is very high. We believe every house should
have a high level of energy efficiency because it saves
money and provides a healthier home.
Properly sized heating and cooling equipment is critical
when looking at the operating efficiency and overall
comfort of your home. However, this is only one area that
is important when we build a home. It is also important to
seal against air leaks, properly design and seal the duct
system, insulate, choose energy efficient windows and
lighting, consider high efficiency water heating and
effective landscaping.
We also encourage clients to look into Energy Efficient
Mortgages (EEMs) which often allow new homeowners to
qualify for a larger mortgage with a lower annual income
due to the energy savings expected in homes built to
higher energy efficiency standards. Ask your mortgage
lender or real estate professional about EEMs.

10 Ways to Reduce
Your Use with Energy Star®
Save energy, money and reduce your impact
on the environment!
-
Earning the Energy Star means a product
meets strict energy efficiency guidelines
set by the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency and the Department of Energy.
-
In the average home, 75% of the electricity
used to power home electronics is consumed
while the products are turned off. Across
the U.S. this equals the annual output of 12
power plants and costs consumers over $1
billion each year.
-
Hand washing dishes can use up to 30 gallons
of water, while modern dishwashers use a
little as 10 gallons per load!
-
Energy Star qualified refrigerators require
about half as much energy as a 10-year old
model and save enough energy to light the
average household for over three months!
-
If every household in the U.S. replaced one
light bulb with an Energy Star qualified
compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL), it
would prevent enough pollution to equal
removing one million cars from the road per
year.
-
If half of all the U.S. households replaced
their regular TV with an Energy Star model,
the change would be like shutting down a
power plant.
-
An Energy Star qualified monitor, in sleep
mode, uses 90% less electricity than
monitors without power management features.
-
Set your hot water temperature no higher
than 120 degrees F. This can save up to 11%
of your water heating costs.
-
Compared to a 10-year old model, an Energy
Star qualified washer can save up to $120
per year on your utility bills.
-
Energy Star recognizes energy-efficient
models in 38 product categories – from
lighting to computers to water coolers.
